A flat board works until the project grows. When it does, Bloom gives you two structures — and choosing the right one is mostly about answering a single question: does this need its own page, or is it a lens on the page you already have?
Sub-boards: real hierarchy
A sub-board is a board nested inside another board — folders, essentially. Each sub-board is a full board with its own page, and sub-boards can nest inside each other with no depth limit.
Use sub-boards when a project has distinct parts that deserve their own space:
- Pitch → Visual references
- Pitch → Music
- Pitch → Wardrobe → Fittings round 2

Clusters: tabs on one board
A cluster is a tab-like grouping within a board. Clicking a cluster filters the board's view to just that group — nothing moves, nothing leaves the board. Clusters work like tags: a way to slice one collection multiple ways.
A cluster can hold references and assets directly and can also group sub-boards, so a big board can be filtered down to one theme with a single click.
Use clusters when you want to see the same board through different lenses:
- by mood
- by scene
- by round of feedback
Which one, when
The rule of thumb from Boards holds: if it needs its own page, make a sub-board; if it's a lens on the same page, make a cluster. Hierarchy is for structure that people will navigate into; clusters are for structure people toggle between while staying put.
The two combine well — a board can have sub-boards for its major parts and clusters that cut across them.
Moving items between clusters
Drag a reference or asset onto a cluster to add it there. Because clusters filter rather than contain, regrouping is low-stakes: an item joining one cluster isn't removed from the board or from anything else, so you can reorganize by theme as often as the project demands.
Good to know: Drag a multi-selection onto empty space and Bloom offers to create a new board or cluster from it — the fastest way to spin structure out of a pile.
